antique treasure troves of fat loot
July 24, 2017
In 2004, I was a weird freshman at Cal awkwardly singing Christian worship songs with a friend outside of her dorm. School hadn't started yet, so when a new friend named Jon came to visit us, I was so thrilled. After a bit of small talk, Jon asked us if we were going to go to Calapalooza, (the annual student activities fair at orientation). We weren't sure if we were going to go, but Jon interrupted us and said, "You have to go, they have fat loot."
Seriously? Who talks like that?
I think I mocked him about that phrase for months.
Anyway, there is an adorable "vintage flea market" in Soquel that I highly recommend! Loot is part of an extensive network of antique/ consignment gift shops in the area. The indoor portion has lots of home decor, refurnishing supplies, and gifts. Outside is an adorable patio with furniture and garden goods. The prices aren't as great as the more authentically vintage finds on the block, but it is definitely more curated.
Honestly, when I am homesick, all I need is to wander around aisles of clutter and then I feel great.
A few details:
- Loot is located at 3011 N Main Street in Soquel from 11AM-4PM
- They are a few houses down from my favorite restaurant in the area: Home.
- There is a petite bargain furniture lot next to the store that is always worth poking around in.
