one year down!
July 24, 2017I am very pleased to announce that Jon and I have lived in Santa Cruz for about one year now! I now can drive highway 17 without tingling sweat glands in my underarms and I even get impatient at the slow losers in the left lane! Just kidding! It's me, I'm the slow one in the 2002 Honda Odyssey!
Anyway, Jon and I really believe in setting down deep roots in the community we live in, so whether that means bowling every Monday night with our crew or knowing our neighbors by name (shout out to Pilar and her yappy dog, Sugar), we intend to make Santa Cruz our home.
First, I begin with observations of my neighborhood from Barson Street:
- Although our garbage pick up is on Wednesdays, I am consistently awakened by a mysteriously loud garbage truck that comes through our block on Mondays. Why does this happen? Who are you servicing and why don't they just wait two days like everyone else?
- There is a Mexican bread man who drives a white truck and when he is nearby, his vehicle emits the loudest jingle ever.
- In the time that I have grown 1 padrone pepper and a few green tomatoes, my neighbors across the street have created a corn field that reaches their second story window.
- One time, we were walking to the local market across from Little Caesar's and there was a pigeon head on the ground.
So obviously, Santa Cruz has been both charming and terrifying and I look forward to documenting more of this as we settle in.
